A rechargeable battery motor runs for around 12 months of average use — that is a blind going up and down roughly once a day — before it needs charging. A blind you operate several times a day will need it sooner, a spare room blind often goes longer. The motor signals when it is low, and charging takes a few hours with a charger that plugs directly into the motor head, so there is no permanent cable on show. Hard-wired motors never need charging at all.

Battery and solar motors are unaffected by a blackout — they carry their own power. Hard-wired motors will not run while the power is out, but nothing is damaged and they work normally as soon as power returns. Your remotes and wall switches keep their settings either way; nothing needs reprogramming.

Sometimes, but it depends on the blind. The motor has to fit inside the existing roller tube, and the tube has to be the right diameter and strong enough for the fabric weight — many older or budget blinds are not. In a lot of cases replacing the blind works out better value than retrofitting one. We will tell you honestly which applies at the free measure.

Quieter than most people expect. The battery motors we fit use a coreless drive with a soft stop, so the blind eases into position rather than stopping with a clunk. You will hear a gentle hum while it moves and nothing at all once it stops — they are quiet enough for a nursery or a bedroom.

Hard-wired motors do need a licensed electrician to run power to the head of each blind, which is why they are best planned into a new build or a renovation before the walls are closed up.
