Greige blockout and white sheer S-fold curtains on a ceiling track, installed by Crown Curtain and Blind

What they are

The curtains you love, with a motor on the track.

Motorised curtains are made-to-measure S-fold curtains hung on a motorised track. A slim Alpha motor sits at one end of the track and pulls the curtain open or closed on a belt inside it, smoothly and at an even pace.

It stops in exactly the same spot every time, so the folds stay even and nobody tugs on the fabric. You can motorise a sheer, a blockout, or both.

  • Any curtain we make: sheer, blockout or double
  • Alpha motor and track, fitted and set up by our team
  • Battery (no electrician) or hard-wired
  • Remote, wall switch, phone app or voice

Inside the track

How a motorised curtain works

A motor, a belt, two carriers and your curtain. This is how they work together.

How a motorised curtain track works: a motor at one end drives a belt inside the track, which pulls the master carriers and the curtain open or closed1234
  1. The motorSits at one end of the track, behind the stacked curtain. Battery or hard-wired.
  2. The beltRuns inside the track and pulls both halves of the curtain at once.
  3. Master carriersThe leading edges. The belt moves them, and the rest of the curtain follows.
  4. Your curtainAny S-fold curtain we make. It looks the same as a hand-drawn one, without a wand.

Three ways to set them up

We match the setup to the window, the door and where the curtain should stack.

Power

Battery or hard-wired?

The first real decision, and it is usually settled by your home, not by the curtain.

No electrician needed

Rechargeable battery

A battery inside the motor drives the curtain. Nothing is wired into the wall, so it suits any existing home, any time.

  • Charges with a USB-C charger, like a phone
  • A 3 m extension lead can bring the charge point down low and out of sight, so there is no ladder
  • Keeps working in a blackout
  • Works with every Alpha remote, wall switch and the app

New builds & renovations

Hard‑wired to mains

The motor runs from a power point at the end of the track, so it never needs charging. Best planned before the ceilings are finished.

  • Never needs charging
  • A licensed electrician puts a power point at the track
  • A built-in radio motor for remotes and the app, or one wired to a wall switch
  • No charging, however often the curtains run

Control

Remote, wall switch, phone or voice.

Every motor comes with Alpha controls, and most homes end up with a mix: a remote by the bed, a switch by the door, and the app for the whole house at once.

Your motorised curtains and motorised blinds can share the same remotes and the same app, so one button can close everything.

Alpha single channel handheld remote

Single remote

One curtain, three buttons: open, stop, close. The easiest one to hand to anyone.

1 channel
Alpha multi channel remote with LCD screen

Multi-room remote

Pick a curtain or a room on the screen, or move every curtain at once.

Up to 16 channels
Alpha wall mounted remote switch

Wall switch

Sits beside your light switch, so there is always one control that never gets lost. No wiring: it sends a signal.

Wall mounted
Alpha Neo hub for app and voice control

App & voice hub

Plugs in near your router and puts every curtain on your phone, wherever you are.

Alexa & Google Home

With the Neo hub: up to 30 rooms with 8 curtains or blinds in each, and 25 schedules. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, plus Control4 and Savant. The remotes use a rolling security code, so a neighbour’s remote can never move your curtains.

Day to day

A day with motorised curtains

  1. 7:00amThe bedroom opens itself

A schedule draws the blockout back at seven. The sheer stays closed while you wake up.

  2. 8:30amOne press on the way out

The wall switch by the door closes the living room sheers before you leave.

  3. 2:00pmAfternoon sun on the floor

Close the blockout from your phone at work and keep the heat and fading out.

  4. 9:30pm“Alexa, close the curtains”

Every curtain in the house closes, and nobody walks room to room.

Where they shine

The windows that need a motor most

White sheer curtains hanging over five metres from a ceiling track in a double-height entry void

Windows you can’t reach

Voids, stairwells and raked ceilings. The track can sit five metres up and the curtain still closes with one press.

A white sheer curtain following a curved track around a bay window in an older Sydney home

Bays, corners and curves

The motor track can be bent or curved to follow the window, so one curtain runs all the way round.

A Sydney apartment with a white sheer and a charcoal blockout on double tracks across a glass wall to the balcony

Walls of glass

Long runs of sliding doors take one press, not a walk from end to end and back.

What we sort out for you

You choose the fabric and how you want to control it. We work out the rest.

  • Where the track fixes: ceiling, recess or wall, and what is behind the plaster
  • Which end the motor goes, so it hides behind the stacked curtain
  • How much stack space the curtain needs to clear the glass when it’s open
  • Battery or hard-wired, and where the charge or power point goes
  • Which curtains share a remote button, and which run on their own
  • App and voice now or later: the hub can be added at any time

Common questions

Motorised curtains — your questions answered

Straight answers before you book.

A slim motor at one end of the curtain track drives a belt inside the track. The belt pulls the leading edges of the curtain open or closed, and the motor stops it at the same set points every time. You run it from a remote, a wall switch, the app or your voice.

Not for a battery motor. It is self-contained and charges with a USB-C charger, so it suits any existing home. A hard-wired motor needs a power point at the end of the track, put in by a licensed electrician, which is easiest during a build or renovation.

Every motor we fit has a 5‑year warranty. That’s on top of our 5‑year workmanship warranty on the installation, so the motor and the fitting are both covered for five years.

Plug the charger into the motor, the same way you charge a phone. We can fit a 3 m extension lead so the charging point sits somewhere low and out of sight, and you never need a ladder. How often it needs charging depends on the size of the curtain and how often it runs.

Yes, with the Alpha Neo hub. It plugs in near your Wi-Fi router and puts every motorised curtain and blind on the free Neo app for iPhone and Android. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, as well as Control4 and Savant, and you can set up to 25 schedules.

Yes. Each curtain sits on its own track with its own motor. A multi-channel remote runs them one at a time or both together, so you can close the sheer by day and the blockout at night.

Yes. The motor track can be bent at a corner or curved to follow a bay window, so one curtain runs the whole way without a break. We measure the exact shape at your free in-home measure.

Sometimes. A motorised curtain hangs on its own motor track, so the old track always comes down. Whether your existing curtains can go back up on the new track depends on their heading and condition, and we check that at the free measure.

A battery motor keeps working, because it carries its own power, and so do the remotes and wall switches. A hard-wired motor stops until the power comes back, then works as normal. The app needs your Wi-Fi, so it returns when the internet does.

Usually 2–3 weeks from your free in-home measure to installation. We confirm the timing for your order when we visit.

It depends on the width of the window, the fabric, battery or hard-wired, and how many remotes you want. We measure for free and give you a written, fixed quote, so you know the full price before you decide.
